What's on: Guernsey Arts

Friday 23 August 2024

Discover what’s happening in the world of arts this week.

From a festival, to church performances and movie screenings, there's something for everyone coming up.

What Shadow? (ce que dit la bouche d'ombre)

Guernsey Arts’ latest exhibition is here. Introducing ‘What Shadow’? (ce que dit la bouche d'ombre); an otherworldly collection of work as a result of a series of residencies that took place in Guernsey, Jersey and France in 2023-4.

The exhibition features a variety of media focusing on the history, mythology and folk traditions of Guernsey, Jersey and France as well as the exploration into the occult and spiritual worlds by Victor Hugo during his exile in Guernsey and Jersey between 1852-1870.

The three artists on residency, Yasmin Atkinson (Guernsey), Louise London (Jersey) and Estelle Chaigne (France) came together during the collaborative project between Guernsey Arts, ArtHouse Jersey and Les Ateliers du Vent (Rennes).

What Shadow? is an exhibition suspended between reality and myth, playing with light and darkness exploring remnants of the past and encounters with perceptible fears and violences.

The exhibition is open to the public from Friday 23 August until Sunday 29 of September. Normal admission applies - free entry for DiscoveryPass holders.

Friends have come and gone and places have changed, creating the memories and scars that define him. In this one-man show filled with drama, nostalgia and laughs, we experience the performance of a fictional man's life from his birth in 1940 right up until the modern day.

The show includes language and swearing which some might find offensive.

All four viewings will be taking place at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts, from 19:00. Get your tickets today!
