The island's leaders have recorded video tributes to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her death on Thursday afternoon at the age of 96.

The recordings - made by the Lieutenant-Governor, Richard Cripwell, the Bailiff, Richard McMahon, and the President of the States' senior committee, Policy & Resources, Deputy Peter Ferbrache - were published on the States' YouTube channel.

The Lieutenant-Governor, the monarch's representative in the Bailiwick, said: "For more than 800 years, this Bailiwick has existed as a personal possession of the Sovereign, and I hope you take comfort when I say that Her Majesty cherished that deep and enduring bond with our islands."

Mr Cripwell noted that Her Majesty first visited the islands in 1949, three years before she became Queen, which was when she opened the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

The Bailiff said Her Majesty was "our beloved Queen" who "throughout, maintained a sense of hope and optimism rooted in faith and recognising that there is much about which to be thankful".

Mr McMahon recalled The Queen's six visits to the Bailiwick.

Deputy Ferbrache said he felt "both sad and honoured to be able to say on behalf of the people of the Bailiwick some words of tribute to our great monarch, our great Queen, our great Duke".

Deputy Ferbrache recalled that he was seven months old when she became Queen and less than two years old when she was crowned and spoke of some of the changes in society since then.
