Help spread some Christmas cheer

Sunday 27 November 2022

The Guernsey Street Festival is inviting the public to sing carols across December for “those who may be feeling isolated and lonely during the festive period”.

The caroling events will be held on the streets of St. Peter Port – coinciding with late night shopping on Thursday evenings – and on various hospital wards and retirement homes on Saturday afternoons.

All ages and abilities are welcomed and will be supported by a full instrumental backing.

Those attending clinical or vulnerable settings will be asked to produce a negative LFT result before arrival, and those presenting covid symptoms should not attend.

Communications Officer for the Festival, Dave Wheeler, said: “I organised a small group of friends to go carolling in the hospital last year, which went down well with everyone involved.

“This year I thought - with Covid restrictions lifted and with the support of the rest of the GSF team - we could expand on this and run a series of carolling events around the island to involve as much of the community as possible.”

Guernsey Street Festival Founder, Claire Dawson, said the events would help to support both artists and the community.

“Christmas is so magical for so many, but for some it can be a lonely and challenging time of year. So when Dave suggested forming a series of carolling choirs to visit the hospital and local residen.al homes, the rest of the commiSee jumped at the chance,” she said.

“This is open to anyone that would like to join the GSF family and spread some much needed Christmas cheer.”

The events planned so far are as follows:

  • Saturday 3rd - Chateau du Village Nursing Home (St. Martin’s)
  • Saturday 10th – St. John’s Residential Home (Saumarez Park)
  • Thursday 15th – St. Peter Port High Street
  • Saturday 17th - Princess Elizabeth Hospital (various wards)
  • Thursday 22nd – St. Peter Port High Street
  • Saturday 24th - Green Oaks Nursing Home (St. Saviour’s)
