The chance to take part in training and awareness building sessions gets underway today with the first such sessions taking place.
A recently formed Consortium, tasked with upskilling employers and other concerned parties, will be delivering a training and development programme to help service providers and others to prepare for the new laws being enacted.
That new discrimination legislation will be formally introduced in Guernsey on 1 October 2023.
The Consortium will be working together to get as many people ready ahead of that date as they can.
Led by Walkers and The Guernsey Institute, The Consortium also includes Equality Guernsey, Guernsey Employment Trust and Focus HR.

Louise Misselke, Principal of The Guernsey Institute, College of Further Education said: “We are delighted to be involved with this programme and we are looking forward to seeing the first group on Thursday. I would encourage employers, service providers, schools and education providers, accommodation providers, clubs, associations and voluntary groups to sign up to one or more of the sessions to ensure they are fully prepared for the forthcoming changes.”
Sarah Ash, a Group Partner in Walkers' Guernsey Employment Law Practice Group, added: “The training and online portal is a comprehensive resource available to all. By starting the programme now, employers and others who will have responsibilities under the new legislation will have reasonable time to prepare before it comes into force on 1 October 2023. There will be five modules during the training programme, covering the legislation from every angle to support all effected to ensure everyone understands the new legislation and their responsibilities.
Each of the five modules will be delivered on four occasions over the coming months and the programme is free of charge. Training will be delivered both face-to-face and online with fully accessible options including recorded sessions with sub-titles.
