Coronavirus webpage updated daily

The States have committed to keeping everyone updated on how the coronavirus outbreak is affecting Guernsey by adding information to a new page on the gov.gg website as it becomes available.

The number of people being tested locally for Coronavirus stood at eight on Thursday, with four of those tests confirmed as negative, while the other four people were still waiting to hear what their results were.

There has been a delay in getting those results back because of the stormy weather this week.

The samples which were taken locally, to carry out precautionary tests for suspected COVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, are said to have been delayed "due to poor weather and increased demand on UK laboratories".

When the results are back, the listing at gov.gg/coronavirus will be updated to reflect the latest status of all suspected cases.

Health and Social Care has also said the increase in demand on the UK laboratories has increased the time it takes to receive confirmed results from the standard 48 hours. In addition, severe weather delayed the local samples from getting off Island on Monday of this week.

HSC said there remains no cause for alarm at this time.

"For those individuals for whom we are awaiting the results, it is important to emphasize that they could be suffering from flu or another ailment."

The situation is changing daily with regards coronavirus globally and locally, with the island's health authorities in regular contact with others to ensure the Bailiwick is in a good position to deal with any positive cases should they arise.

To ensure the latest information is easily accessible and that there is clarity on all of the guidelines, a page dedicated to coronavirus has been set up on the gov.gg website.

HSC said it "provides information on the number of samples that have been taken, the results and the number of samples that are awaiting results.

"This site is updated on a daily basis. It is important to note that there are currently NO confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Bailiwick. The delay in results is not an indication of a potential positive result."
