HSC needs you!

Wednesday 22 November 2023

With vacancies across the health care sector, from hands on nursing and carer roles to admin staff and everything in between, an event is being held on Saturday to try and find some new recruits.

At Beau Sejour, between 10:00 and 14:00, HSC Director of Care Delivery Elaine Burgess is feeling positive they can use that time to start matching any potential job seekers with fulfilling roles.

"The choice of vacancies are really broad," she said, explaining that there are posts within all areas of the hospital, children and family services in the community, mental health and adult disability, and community services.

Some of the roles which HSC is recruiting into are very useful for people looking for a career path, said Ms Burgess.

"Healthcare support workers are somebody who may have no experience of health or care previously, but they are compassionate and really like helping people. You might have worked in a supermarket before and have really good customer service skills. That's what we need. It's a really good career path - we train them as soon as they come in to us, and they can even get on to the registered nurse training, if you're really interested in nursing that can do that route."

"There are loads of vacancies across all sectors," she said.

"There are registered nursing vacancies, senior carers in the community, catering, administration, housekeeping...it really is everything, and there's the bank.

"If you're working somewhere else and you're not really happy, but you don't want to give up your job you can dip your toes in with the bank to do the odd shift and we can work with you to find the work you do really like. We've done this with other people and gradually what happens is people can find their purpose and they may give their notice in, and try out something new.

"People might be wondering 'can I be a social worker?', 'can I work in mental health?' well you can find out."

If anyone has any queries about pay or other vital employment information, or needs help updating and uploading their CVs, there will be HR staff from HSC there to help out too.

"Anyone that's interested in working in health just go down on Saturday and someone will be there to speak to you," Ms Burgess said.

"There are permanent jobs, and bank work if they just want some shifts to give it a go and see.

"There's something for everyone."

While Ms Burgess is confident in finding a fulfilling job role for anyone within the wide and varied health care sector, she is aware that recruitment challenges continue, so she's hoping for a good turnout on Saturday.

"We really do need more people to come down. We had a good successful year one year and it's just getting the word out there, that if there's anything we can do to help we will."

The HSC recruitment day is being held at Beau Sejour on Saturday 25 November, in the concourse area between 10:00 and 14:00.
