Invitation to "Come together" for State Funeral

Friday 16 September 2022

Further details have been released for the States screening of the Queen's funeral on Monday, which has been described as an opportunity to come together to "honour the life of a truly exceptional Monarch, who dedicated her life to serving communities exactly like ours".

Her Majesty will be laid to rest with her "strength and stay" Prince Philip, her parents and her sister, at Windsor after her State Funeral at Westminster Abbey.

The State Funeral is due to start at 11:00 on Monday 19 September, with the ceremonial procession from Westminster Hall, where she is lying in state, due to commence at shortly after 10:35.

The Queen's Coffin will be carried from Westminster Hall to the State Gun Carriage, which will take it to Westminster Abbey, arriving just before 11:00.

Following the State Funeral, which is due to finish at around midday, the Queen's coffin will be placed on the State Gun Carriage again and be taken from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch. This procession is due to start at 12:15.

At Wellington Arch, the Queen's coffin will be transferred from the State Gun Carriage to the State Hearse just after 13:00, ahead of the final journey to Windsor.

The State Hearse will take Her Majesty's coffin from central London to Windsor. When it arrives in Windsor, the Hearse will join a procession due to begin just after 15:00 going to St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle

Just before 16:00, this procession will halt at the bottom of the West Steps of St George's Chapel in Horseshoe Cloister. Here, the bearer party will carry the coffin in procession up the steps into the chapel.

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II will be interred during a private burial at King George VI Memorial Chapel in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle at 19:30.

In Guernsey, the State Funeral will be screened at Saumarez Park.

The States have organised this and extended an invite to everyone to "come together this Monday to watch the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II".

In extending the invitation to everyone, the States said: "We would really like this to be an event where the community comes together to honour the life of a truly exceptional Monarch, who dedicated her life to serving communities exactly like ours".

The screen at Saumarez Park will have two thousand seats arranged in front of it, along with space for people to sit on blankets and rugs to watch the service.

Volunteers, including from the Scouts, will be handing out a "limited supply of teas coffees", while the Saumarez Park Cafe will be open with a donation to the Royal British Legion of 20% of their takings on the day.

Further donations will be shared between the Royal British Legion and the Bailiwick of Guernsey Scout Association, both of which Her Majesty was Patron of.
