Christmas changes incoming

Thursday 23 November 2023

Christmas is coming, along with a number of changes to car park disc zones, and the dispensation allowing motorists to drive through town so those with less mobility can see the festive lights.

They're being switched on this Saturday in St Peter Port, with a visit from Santa himself.

From the next day, Sunday 26 November, pensioners and those with limited accessibility are allowed to drive through town from Smith Street or Le Pollet, towards the Town Church to see the usually pedestrianised streets all lit up. They can also drive down Mill and Mansell Street, at a maximum speed of 12mph.

As with previous years, Traffic and Highways Services is giving permission for this on Sunday (except 24 December), Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings between 18:00 and 22:00 until Monday 1 January.

Parking time limits

Some parking time limits in town will be changing from this coming Saturday, aimed at encouraging support for local shops and eateries.

From Saturday 25 November until Tuesday 2 January 2024 inclusive, a number of two-hour parking spaces will be extended to three-hours including all at North Beach, the Albert and Crown Piers.

The three-hour parking spaces on the Havelet Bay side of the Model Yacht Pond will be changed to 10-hour parking.

The 10-hour spaces at North Beach will be de-regulated on the remaining Saturdays of this year, meaning those who are driving won't need to move their vehicle by 08:00 if they park overnight on the Friday.

The 44-spaces on St Julians Emplacement (between Cambridge Berth and Trident Kiosk), will be available for shoppers on Saturdays and Sundays for the rest of the year as well as for late-night shopping on Thursday evenings between 17:00 and 22:00.

Members of the public will also be able to park at both Sir Charles Frossard House and Lukis House on remaining Saturdays in November and all of December and also between 18:00 and 22:00 on Thursdays for late night shopping.

The Petit Train will run a free Park ‘n’ Ride service from 18:00 until 21:00 on the late-night shopping evenings between Sir Charles Frossard House and Stand A (Picquet House) at the bus terminus, while the 'S' bus services which normally operate at 20:35 will be delayed until 21:00 on the late- night shopping evenings.
