Audition time!

Friday 05 January 2024

Creative and talented individuals across a variety of disciplines are invited to audition this weekend as the Guernsey Street Festival organisers jump headfirst into "another year of street festival shenanigans".

Singers, dancers, actors, instrumentalists, storytellers, poets, painters, puppeteers, crocheters, sculptors, magicians and "anything else - solo or in a group" are all invited to take part.

The organisers said the auditions being held this weekend, at The Ladies' College, will be like a famous TV show.

"Think Britain's Got Talent, minus the buzzers. Or the celebrity judges. Or the large audience"

The 2024 Guernsey Street Festival will be held between 20 July and 3 August.

The fortnight long calendar of events will "celebrate all forms of street performance including, but not limited to, music, art, theatre, dance, food and crafts".

As a non-profit event, all money raised by the performances is invested back into entertainment and charities supported by the organisers.

Most recently those involved with the Guernsey Street Festival spent time volunteering their services in the run up to Christmas with carolling events in residential homes, the hospital, and during the town late night shopping events.

With their eyes already on the busy summer schedule, the auditions for the 2024 Guernsey Street Festival have been organised for Sunday 7 January, at The Ladies' College between 14:00 and 16:00.

There will be a "friendly panel of committee members" in the College drama studio "eager to discover what talents you may have in store for us".

This year's auditions have been arranged for earlier than in previous years to enable the organisers and performers plenty of time to prepare for the summer's Street Festival, alongside any other commitments they may have.

Talent Coordinator for the Guernsey Street Festival, Lydia Sullivan-Pugh, said they are hoping to build on the success of last year's audition process which discovered some new talent in the island.

“We had a fantastic uptake of auditionees in 2023 with lots of new faces, some having recently moved to the island," she said.

"We can’t wait for another round of auditions for 2024 - let’s see what more talent is out there in this beautiful little island!”

As well as the Guernsey Street Festival the organisers help arrange Candie Concerts; free concerts in the grounds of Candie Gardens between May and September, Christmas busking and carolling, quiz nights to support artists' charities, and the town bunting which is put up every summer.

Anyone interested in auditioning for the Guernsey Street Festival, or any other events it arranges, or volunteering for the events, should contact the organisers via email to participate@guernseystreetfestival.com.
