Musical street festival begins tomorrow

Friday 21 July 2023

St Peter Port is set to be treated to two weeks' worth of busking and bands from Saturday 22 July with the return of the Guernsey Street Festival.

The third edition of the festival will run everyday bar Sundays until 5 August, and it kicks off at 10:00 with a parade featuring musicians, cosplayers, and volunteers winding from the Sunken Gardens down to Market Square.

The Big Band Collective, which entertained the masses at the Island Games opening ceremony, will perform at the end of the parade.

Performances in the following days run from 10:00 to 15:30 across eight performances areas throughout town, from Candie Gardens to the bus terminus.

As well as musicians there will be actors, dancers, puppeteers, storytellers and superheroes. People can also enjoy stalls selling art from local creatives.

60 acts have been booked, with 30 newcomers also set to feature which has demanded the creation of a new one-day stage for ‘emerging’ talent. It will be outside Picquet House on 29 July.

Each Saturday has its own theme, with attendees encouraged to dress up and be entered into fancy dress competitions.

Guernsey Street Festival Founder Claire Dawson said: "We are so very lucky to have such an enormous amount of talent on our tiny island and a beautiful town, both of which need our support."

Guernsey Street Festival is a charity which was founded to provide a platform for local entertainers of all ages and abilities. All artists are paid for their contributions.
