Open day for performers

Saturday 11 February 2023

Anyone interested in performing as part of this summer's Guernsey Street Festival can go to an open day tomorrow afternoon where industry experts will be giving out tips and advice too.

Taking place between Saturday 22 July and Saturday 5 August, the Street Festival will see various talented people showcasing their skills.

The organisers want to find some new undiscovered talent - both on and off-island - to join in, and to be paid for doing so.

Tomorrow's open afternoon at the Rocquettes Hotel, in conjunction with the Guernsey Arts Commission will see stalls manned by industry experts and an open mic session for anyone wanting to show off their skills.

It's on between two and four pm.

Guernsey Street Festival Founder and Chair, Claire Dawson, said it will give everyone a chance to find out more about the week entails.

“This Open Day is a chance for us to catch up with all our amazing GSF performers and provide any help or advice they may need before this year’s event. It’s also an opportunity for those who think they’d like to ‘give it a go’ - whether as a performer or volunteer - to come and have a chat.

“Thanks to the funds donated in the buckets last year from the wonderful public, we have been able to buy eight amps, mics and mic stands so that during future fes1vals the performers won’t need to carry their own equipment into town. This event will therefore provide a demonstra1on on how to use the new kit.”

Russ Fossey, Head of Arts Development at the Guernsey Arts Commission, welcomed the open afternoon idea and said it will help focus planning ahead of the next summer.

"This is a really proactive approach from the Guernsey Street Festival team in supporting local musicians and performers in honing their skills, giving tips and highlighting the opportunities there are in bringing arts, culture, vibrancy and personality to the streets of St Peter Port. We are delighted to be involved in the event and look forward to meeting with everyone.”
