Have you noticed the flowers blooming? Can you hear the birdsong? This week, Spring officially arrives, and we’ve got an impressive catalogue of events to help you get busy and embrace the warmer days.

Music is the theme for this week, with a sprinkling of visual arts and theatre.

New Movement Ensemble at St James

Kicking it off strong, we have another fabulous evening of music at St James.

Taking place from 19:00 this Friday 15 March, the eclectic ‘New Movement Ensemble’ will take to stage for a set of musical story-telling, melodicism, improvisation and groove.

“New Movement Ensemble is a collective of musicians and friends who have spent the last decade creating music and challenging each other to express themselves honestly. Having met in London in the early 2010s, the group draw their inspirations from the wide breadth of artistic and cultural wealth the city has to offer.”

St Saviour's Church Concert Series 2024

Continuing the musical theme but springing into a new genre; this Friday 15 March marks the first of the St Saviour’s Church concert series.

Starting at 19:30 and in the brilliant setting of the church, the concert series showcases musical highlights from across the island; bringing together audiences who love live music, bands, choirs and orchestras.

This week, the audience will be treated to a performance from the brilliant community choir, ‘Singing from the Heart’, and even a complimentary glass of wine!

No tickets are required and there is a retiring collection after the concert. Support local artists and charities, all while enjoying an evening of amazing music - what’s not to love?

Tantale presents: Where Nothing Ends featuring Flexagon, Bare Minimum and guests

For the last entry in this week’s musical lineup, we’re heading back to St James for an extraordinary night of rock, groove and surrealism.

Kicking off at 20:00 on Saturday 16 March; seasoned live performers, Tantale, return to the stage to recreate their fourth studio album, ‘Where Nothing Ends’.

“Tantale’s album ‘Where Nothing Ends’ is a delight. So many different vibes as they cross genres from grunge to blues to indie and everything in between. I’m a fan.” - Emma Scott, The Pluggin Baby Radio Show

Supporting their electric performance will be the amazing Bare Minimum, a ‘power band’ comprised of five talented and established local musicians, with a focus on crafting music with intention.

Adding that special touch; stage decor and visuals will be provided by Kooky Styling, Beeswing Productions and GLC laser Lighting. Tunes between sets by the brilliant Flexagon.

National Theatre Live Presents - The Motive and the Cue

If you’re looking for something a little different to add some excitement to your week, this could certainly be the event for you.

Next Thursday 21 March at 19:00, the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts welcomes you into the theatre to feast your eyes on a “fierce and funny” screening of this new play by Jack Thorne.

The story takes place in 1964 and follows actor Richard Burton, who is to play the title role in an experimental new Broadway production under John Gielgud’s exacting direction. As rehearsals progress, two ages of theatre collide and the collaboration between actor and director soon threatens to unravel.

ENTANGLEMENT: An Exhibition by Linda Martorella

Next Saturday 23 March, Guernsey Arts are proud to present the latest of our Greenhouse Gallery exhibitions; ENTANGLEMENT by the talented visual artist, Linda Martorella.

In this exhibition, narratives are woven through bold, conceptual, figurative paintings. Using oils, acrylics and mixed media, the collection aims to communicate beauty and complexity from the depths of human form.

The exhibition, which will open from 10:00 - 16:00 within the Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery at Candie, will run until Sunday 12 May.
