Summer street festival aims to draw in the crowds

Thursday 22 July 2021

A summer extravaganza of local talent and entertainment will arrive on the streets of St Peter Port, starting this weekend.

The Guernsey Street Festival charity has been set up to champion local and visiting entertainers, provide a platform for performers of all genres and ages, all while providing a lively atmosphere around St Peter Port.

The main festival will run for two weeks in St Peter Port from Saturday 24 July to 7 August to celebrate many forms of street entertainment.

"It is more important than ever to celebrate and support our local performers and we have been thrilled to see such fantastic talent come forward from all ages," said Founder Claire Dawson.

Ms Dawson continued: "We are excited to bring this year’s Guernsey Street Festival entertainment to the streets of St Peter Port as it is also crucial that we increase the footfall in town and support our local shops and restaurants who have all struggled over the last 18 months."

Each Saturday will have a different theme for youngsters and Creaseys Toy Shop is sponsoring the prizes for the fancy dress competitions, which will be judged in the Market at 14:00 each Saturday.

  • Saturday 24th - Superheroes and Princesses Day (and we encourage all the children to dress up as their favourite character and join in the parade at 10.00am too).

  • Saturday 31st – Fairies, Witches and Wizards Day

  • Saturday 7th – Pirates Day

Creaseys Toy Shop will also be running the following events in-store:

  • Monday 26th to Saturday 31st July -  in-store treasure hunt with Play-Doh play days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Sand play days on Thursday, Friday & Saturday.

  • Monday 2nd to Saturday 7th August - Fairies, Witches and Wizard treasure hunt and Big Build play days all week.

People are also encouraged to keep their eyes peeled for the ten fairy doors around Town in shop windows.  If you to find a fairy door, you can take a photo with the door and upload it to Facebook with the tag @gsystreetfest without revealing the secret location.

Each door photographed gives you one entry into the competition. The winner will be announced on the festival's Facebook page on Sunday 8 August.
