Jersey swimmers edged their medals gap over Guernsey forwards after a big show on the eve of the final day of pool action.

Its team now has 26 medals from those competitions so far, with 11 golds, 9 silvers, and 7 bronzes, while Guernsey ended the day just behind with 25 in total.

The islands had been neck and neck on 17 each going into the day.

But Guernsey, with a Games total of 99 at the end of day 4 of sporting action, still has a comfortable jump over Jersey in the overall medal table with two days of sport to go.

Jersey won gold in both the women’s 4x100 freestyle, pipping Cayman and Guernsey, and the men’s 4x100 medley where Guernsey won silver in a race that went to the wire.

Local swimmers did add to their personal tallies though with the already decorated Hallet brothers finding themselves on the podium for the relays, and earlier swapping positions to take silver (Charlie-Joe) and bronze (Ronny)

The girls also added to their existing 2023 collections. Orla Rabey claimed bronze in the 400m freestyle, Hannah Jones took silver in the 50m freestyle, and Tatiana Tostevin won a bronze in the 200m backstroke.

Guernsey’s Tom Hollingsworth also won silver in the 200m backstroke for the men adding to his whopping medal haul over 10 separate Island Games.

There are 12 medals up for grabs in the last day of swimming at Guernsey 2023. The finals start from 18:00 at Beau Sejour. Seating is limited.
