Swimming records tumble

Wednesday 12 July 2023

Guernsey's women have broken two Island Games relay records including one which they set themselves at the last Games in 2019.

The team included three of the four swimmers who broke the record in Gibraltar with Tatiana Tostevin, Orla Rabey and Laura Le Cras being joined in the pool by Hannah Jones. Courtney Butcher who was in the record breaking 2019 team is not swimming in this year's NatWest International Island Games.

The 2019 team swam the Women's 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay in 1:45.86 in 2019, with the 2023 team bringing that time down to 1:44.92 this week.

The relay team of Tostevin, Rabey, Le Cras and Jones also set a new record in the Women's 4 x 50m Medley Relay last night, in a time of 1:54.11 - knocking more than a minute off the time set by team Isle of Man in 2019.

Guernsey holds five other swimming records at the Island Games dating back to 2011, 2013 and 2017.

Tom Hollingsworth is the only other current record holding swimmer representing Guernsey at this year's Games.
