Summer flights all cancelled

Aurigny has now cancelled all of its scheduled services up until the end of August - with only lifeline flights between Guernsey and Alderney and Guernsey and Southampton likely to run until then.

In an update posted today, Aurigny said that:

"Due to the ongoing crises and the publicised exit strategy presented by the States of Guernsey, Aurigny will be cancelling all scheduled flights up to the end of August 2020.

"Those customers who have their flight cancelled or changed will be contacted and advised of the available options.

"As ever, Aurigny’s main priority is the wellbeing of its customers and staff. We would especially like to thank those staff working in our call centre who have dealt with an unprecedented number of calls due to exceptional circumstances and are working through these changes with our customers."

Aurigny had already cut its services right back to just a daily flight between Guernsey and Southampton, six days a week, and two rotations between Guernsey and Alderney six days a week, as the global corona virus pandemic caused a lockdown in our Bailiwick and elsewhere.

The Bailiwick is currently in phase two of its lockdown with efforts to contain and delay the spread of covid-19 seemingly successful.

Currently there are only eight active cases and no one has tested positive for the potentially fatal virus in two weeks.

The Director of Public Health, Dr Nicola Brink, and the President of Health and Social Care, Deputy Heidi Soulsby, have both said the Bailiwick is close to eliminating the virus.

Reopening the Bailiwick's ports is listed under phase six of the lockdown, and is dependent on what is happening elsewhere as well as locally.

It's thought a 'Bailiwick bubble' will be created over the summer so people can move between the islands more freely, but none other than essential travel will be allowed otherwise.

The next update on the Bailiwick response to the covid-19 pandemic is due at 13:00 Friday 15 May.

It is expected to include details on "the next phase of the exit strategy".
