States offices reopening

Monday 22 June 2020

It's back to the office for many of Guernsey's civil servants today as phase 5 means most departments which serve members of the public are reopening for counter services today.

The driver and vehicle licensing officer at Bulwer Avenue reopened last Monday, but all others, including those counter services offered at Sir Charles Frossard House and Edward T Wheadon House, are opening to the public for the first time in months today.

While staff have been working remotely where possible, some public-facing counter services were suspended during the lockdown. Even after they all reopen today, customers are being "strongly encouraged to use online or telephone services wherever possible".

The Bulwer Avenue public-facing offices are operating as normal, between 09:00 and 16:00, on weekdays. Practical and theory driving test bookings are available online with services being re-introduced on a staggered basis from last Wednesday. Bookings can be made HERE  or queries may be sent to drivingtest@gov.gg.

The New Jetty public counter will reopen from Monday 22 June, but with reduced opening hours as Guernsey Border Agency Staff continue supporting efforts to control the spread of covid-19.

The temporary opening hours will be 08:45 – 13:00, while staff are redeployed to cover border checks at Guernsey Airport.

Staff are still able to deal with enquiries over the phone or by email, using the below contact details:

Disclosure & Vetting – 01481 741462 or Disclosures@guernsey.pnn.police.uk
Passports & Immigration – 01481 741410 or ind@gba.gov.gg
Customs & Excise – 01481 741431 or customsandexcise@gba.gov.gg

Any applications/correspondence can also be posted through the letter box in the staff door.

In response to the restrictions brought about by Covid-19, most Planning and Building Control services are now available on-line - but an appointment system will now operate for customers visiting the Planning Service at Sir Charles Frossard House, from Monday 22 June, so customers unable to access the service they require either online or by telephone can do so in person instead.

The Planning Service may still be contacted by post, however staff say email remains the preferred method of communication to ensure that enquiries can be quickly directed to, and dealt with by, the relevant officer, who may still be working from home.

For advice on a proposal before submitting a formal application, a pre-application enquiry form, information concerning current planning applications or information on other enquiries can be found HERE.
