Representatives wanted to guide mental health strategy

Saturday 28 January 2023

Health and Social Care is looking for two people join its mental health and wellbeing steering group to widen the impact of experience among the team of experts.

One of the two new recruits should be an ‘expert by experience’ - someone who has personal experience of mental ill health, or closely knows someone who does.

The other role will need someone with experience of the business community with an interest in mental health considerations in the workplace.

Both will be recruited as bank staff members of the recently rebranded department, Specialist Mental Health Services.

This means they will be paid when working to support service development and quality improvementthrough attending and contributing to the wider steering group, which encompasses Guernsey and Alderney services.

The steering group has been reconvened following a second report into the island’s mental health service provision late last year.

The group will address service gaps across Guernsey and Alderney and implement the strategy – including oversight of David Gedze’s recommendations. Its membership includes deputies, civil servants and healthcare professionals.

Deputy Al Brouard, President of HSC, said the group would act as an “overall umbrella” for services even if they are not offered by the government.

The meetings of the group were put on hold during the pandemic, but it was recognised that this group would be essential in addressing the gaps in provision identified by Mr Gedze.
