Inflation-linked increase in taxi fares proposed

Tuesday 07 November 2023

A 7.67% increase in taxi fares is being considered by the States with taxi drivers said to be in support, but consultations are now being invited from the public on the idea.

That would see a two-mile day journey increase by 60p, while a five-mile evening journey would increase by £1.80 to just over £23.

Environment & Infrastructure says the hike reflects the rate of inflation between June 2022 and 2023, and considers changes in average earnings and new costs associated with licensing requirements for drivers.

Fares were increased in April 2023 which factored in inflation between 2021 and 2022.

E&I said the increase is supported by the Guernsey Taxi Drivers Association.

But people can have their say on the proposal up to 21 November by emailing passengertransport@gov.gg or sending a letter to: The Manager, Licensing and Operations, Edward T Wheadon House, Le Truchot, St Peter Port, GY1 3WH.
