Guernsey's women aim for 20th win in a row

Saturday 18 May 2019

If Guernsey's women beat Jersey in the basketball inter-insulars today it will be the 20th consecutive win for the girls in green.

Captained by both Emma Webb and Emma Hicks, the Guernsey side are hoping to inspire all female athletes with their continued success regardless of the scoreline today.

Theirs isn't the only game being played at Beau Sejour, with a full line up of action from the best basketballers in both islands.

The women play at two, with the under 17s playing during the morning, the under 21s playing at lunchtime and the senior men's side playing later in the afternoon.

The Guernsey Basketball association are hoping for a good turn out to support each of the four teams as they take on the island's arch rivals as it is also the 50th anniversary of the sport in Guernsey, having first been played locally in 1969.

'Bazza Stats' has kept the scores for the local games for a bulk of that time, creating a database of results since 1982. His work is a lasting reminder of some great successes including the women's 19 year run of wins. They are shown below:
