Donations for Christmas Lights reach 10k+

Two weeks on from the launch of the latest fundraising campaign for the annual St Peter Port Christmas Lights, the charity has already received almost a third of its target sum.

Charity Chair and Trustee Jax Robin has said thank you to the public for their overwhelming support, having already received 1000 envelopes back from local residents donating what they can.

Support in the form of donations has also been garnered through cheques, PayPal and direct donations into the charity’s account. Since the public appeal, the charity has raised £10,358.28 for the festive cause so far - roughly half coming in each week.

The target is to reach £33,000 by 31 August, with decorations beginning to go up in October so that as per tradition, the lights can be switched on by Father Christmas ahead of the planned late night shopping season. This year's switch on date has been set for Saturday 30 November.

With the backing of the Channel Islands Co-operative Society and Guernsey Post who have sent out request envelopes and displayed donation buckets in stores, the charity has emphasised that the occasion is only able to go ahead with the support of the island and that if the budget permits, it may also be possible for lights to be put up in Trinity Square this year.

The St Peter Port Christmas Lights charity has also expressed its sincere thanks to all who have contributed so far, and asks any residents who still want to contribute to return their FREEPOST envelopes or you can donate through PayPal.
