Bus services aligned for key worker demand

Friday 03 April 2020

Guernsey's bus service is being cut further as passenger numbers continue to fall, but 'enhanced' services are being built into the timetable for essential workers who rely on the public transport network.

CT Plus has contracted its timetables over the past week as the effect of the lockdown measures impacted on passenger numbers.

Following the start of the lockdown on 25 March, the bus company was able to study passenger movements to see where cuts could be made, initially reducing the Monday to Friday services to a Saturday schedule, while a Sunday schedule was rolled out over both days at a weekend.

However, now further cuts have been made, meaning an 'enhanced Sunday' service will run on weekdays from Monday 6 April until further notice.

Saturdays and Sundays will see a standard Sunday service running across the island.

The enhancements made to the Sunday service running Monday to Friday from next week are aimed at key workers who are currently the only people who should be travelling to their place of work.

The times below are the enhancements which have been made to help those employees get to work:

Further changes may be made to the bus service where required, and CT Plus said it wants to hear from key workers if they are able to better fit the service around their needs.

"If you are an essential worker who may be affected by the current changes in service please let us know. We may then be able to arrange a bus for you that may better reflect the usual timetable and your usual start/finish time," said a spokesperson for the bus firm.

Key workers, and anyone else needing to use a bus to make an essential journey should call 700456 for journey planning advice.
