Zero emission bus being tested on Guernsey roads

Tuesday 09 April 2024

A wheelchair accessible, 2.35m wide, electric bus is being tested on Guernsey's roads today, with CT Plus saying they're checking its "manoeuvrability" as well as its energy consumption and charging needs.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro 100EV will be at the Albany this morning before being driven on various island roads over the next two days as it's put through its paces.

The bus won't be in service during this time but CT Plus said the trials are part of a joint initiative with Alexander Dennis "to present to the island a state of the art zero emission bus".

CT Plus Director Kevin Hart said the two organisations will be analysing data on energy consumption, charging requirements, and manoeuvrability on the island's bus routes.

"It’s great news that Guernsey is the first to trial the Envrio100EV, this shows the continued commitment manufactures have to finding the right solution for the island.

"The bus has an impressive capacity for its small size, some three more can be accommodated on the Enviro100EV than can be taken on the current buses being used.

"The previous vehicles we trialled had great manoeuvrability however with its door positioned in front of the front wheels the Enviro100EV should be far better to manoeuvre."

Shaun Millar, National Account Manager for Alexander Dennis will also be present for the road trials.

"We are really pleased to be trialling the new Enviro100EV in Guernsey," he said.

"We expect our 'big small bus' will perform well in Guernsey as its size and manoeuvrability make it ideal for the island’s roads while offering passengers the comfort of a much larger vehicle.

"This is one of the first on-road trials of the Enviro100EV and we are really looking forward to analysing the results together with CT Plus."

The key dimensions and features of the Alexander Dennis Enviro 100EV are:

Fully zero emissions electric bus
Length 8.5 metres
Width 2.35 metres
Passenger capacity up to 45 with up to 25 seats
