Barbers hope to open at former interpretation centre at North Side

The building at North Side on the Bridge which previously housed a heritage interpretation centre could soon become a barbers' shop.

Vale residents Joanne and Andrew Mahy have applied to the States' Development & Planning Authority for permission to convert the small building into retail space.

Mr and Mrs Mahy want to enclose and weatherproof the lobby, which is currently open to the elements, to create an entrance and waiting area. The barbers' salon would go in the area behind the existing door. No other changes are planned to the structure or surrounding area. 

The application to the Authority states: “At present, the retail area is open to the elements, so I would like to enclose it with an Accoya wood door frame and side panels with two opening fan lights."

The company behind the application is No 1 Barbers, which has operated from other premises on the Bridge for several years.  

The application is now awaiting a decision from the Authority.
