Thursday 05 July 2018

Nine local companies have signed up to support Guernsey's Discover Digital student internship programme in its second year.

Following the first Digital Internship which was held during 2017, the Digital Greenhouse said it is "delighted to be working with some of the Island’s leading companies to offer the second Discover Digital Internship this summer in Guernsey."

More than 60 applications were received for the scheme, with 15 students being selected after being interviewed to take part in the programme.

The successful candidates include students from post-16 Schools and Colleges, as well as students currently studying at University towards degrees in computer science, electronic engineering and sustainable product design.

The six-week paid summer internship has been designed specifically for the island’s post-16 students who are passionate about the digital world and are seeking to work on projects for local employers to develop their digital career pathways. The success of the 2017 Internship saw last year’s Interns being offered additional work, further education bursaries and full time employment, following their participation in the scheme.

Running from 16 July until 24 August, participating companies employ the Digital Interns for two-week or six-week projects. This years companies are KPMG, Sure, First Central Group, PwC, Healthspan, C5 Alliance, JT and Specsavers. Representatives from the Digital Greenhouse and The Potting Shed will also be working with students to support their future career planning.

Lucy Witham, Head of Digital for Economic Development said:

“Supporting our students by facilitating Industry placements and real life experience is a great way to spark a passion for problem solving in a digital environment. We are very pleased to be working local Companies who are providing such fantastic opportunities for Guernsey students and graduates to experience the cutting edge of digital innovation first hand, building their knowledge and gaining a wider understanding of digital opportunities in Guernsey.”
