New executive level recruitment platform launched

Thursday 23 August 2018

Situations - a local recruitment agency - has launched a new online service, Situations Executives, aimed at senior candidates who are interested in being updated on executive level vacancies in the Guernsey market.

While there are over 780 members of the Guernsey Branch of the Institute of Directors, on a small island, the choice of senior roles is diminished, it said.

As such, Melissa Campbell, Situations' Director, explained they felt there was a gap in the market for senior local candidates who are potentially interested in a career move.

"These Executives want to keep abreast of details about new senior level vacancies without having to actively register on a recruitment agent’s books.  They can enter their job requirements on the Executives page of our website, we keep a highly confidential database of their details and we get in touch the second their chosen role arises," she said.

"Then it’s entirely their choice whether they wish to register with our agency in order to apply for the job.  With our 32 years in business, our extensive industry knowledge and our client list comprising hundreds of Guernsey employers, we have all of the tools at our fingertips to find executives just the right role and we really understand what they’re looking for.”

According to The Economist, the time taken to reach the top of a business is falling, with the average time from first job to chief executive falling from 28 years in 1980 to 24 years in 2001. Additionally it is increasingly likely that incumbents will occupy executive roles until retirement.

Because of this, Ms Campbell said it was important for senior level staff to keep appraised of potential opportunities in the marketplace.

“Senior candidates are understandably concerned about confidentiality, particularly in a small employment market such as Guernsey’s. Also, they generally do not wish to register with a recruitment agency until they are sure that a vacancy is suitable for their career aspirations."
