Maya Le Tissier’s captaincy debut could not have gone any better.

Her Manchester United side were dominant as they beat West Ham 3-0 at Old Trafford in the Women's Super League.

While she was also the pick of the United players.

Afterwards she posted on Instagram: “the perfect day, 3 points at Old Trafford, clean sheet, plenty of debuts and on a personal note a dream come true to lead the girls out for the first time!”

Brazilian attacker Geyse opened the scoring on 28 minutes, before Leah Galton doubled the lead with a superb strike just before half-time, putting Marc Skinner's side in control.

Grace Clinton's header nestled into the bottom corner just after half-time, completing the scoring on her debut for the club.

There were debuts to summer signings Dominique Janssen, Elisabeth Terland, Celine Bizet and Simi Awujo on a sunny afternoon in Manchester in front of 12,000 fans.

Le Tissier played the full 90 minutes at centre back.

The 22-year-old had the most touches of any United player (93) and had a 78% pass completion rate from her 80 attempted.

She was dominant on the ground, winning 7/7 duels and eight out of 10 in the air.

The teams paid tribute to midfielder Ella Toone's father, who passed away earlier this month.

There was a minute's applause before kick-off, while players also did Toone's trademark celebration after United scored, in his memory.

"Not only was he a huge Manchester United fan but he has been a huge part of a player who is an exemplary character for this club and somebody who will go down in history for this club," said Skinner.

"I thought she was brave beyond belief today. It's a horrible thing to happen but we're here to show love, care and support for an iconic player for Manchester United."
