Two Guernsey yachts have now finished the gruelling Fastnet Race.

After Killing Time came home yesterday fourth in their class, Majic2 has also arrived safely in Cherboug.

They crossed the line at 1.43pm, claiming 16th in the same class having taken six hours five days and 46 minutes.

Majic2 was skippered by Ron Wilkes-Green, who last took part in the race 30 years ago.

It was a challenging race.

HM Coastguard responded to 28 incidents as a result of difficult weather conditions on Saturday night affecting vessels participating in the race.

That led to one yacht sinking and the crew being rescued, while around 86 boats from a record 430 entries are believed to have retired in those opening stages.

Killing Time, skippered by Alastair Bisson, finished shortly before 8.30am on Thursday having taken four days 18 hours and 13 minutes, just an hour behind third place in IRC 2A.

It was the 50th edition of the Rolex Fastnet Race, which saw amateur crews line up with professionals to sail from Cowes to the Fastnet Rock off southern Ireland before finishing in Cherbourg, a course of some 629nm.
