Fastnet latest: Killing Time finishes testing race

Thursday 27 July 2023

Killing Time took fourth place in their class in a Fastnet Race that will long live in the memory.

The yacht, skippered by Alastair Bisson, finished shortly before 8.30am having taken four days 18 hours and 13 minutes, just an hour behind third place in IRC 2A.

The second Guernsey yacht taking part, Majic2, is now 134 nautical miles from the finish having rounded the famous Fastnet Rock south of Ireland.

She is due to finish tomorrow afternoon.

During the first day and night the fleet was hit by strong winds which led to 86 retirements and one yacht sinking - the crew was rescued.

Killing Time posted on their Facebook page that it had been a “wet and wild” night.

As the wind conditions backed off on Sunday and Monday the race became more tactical and tense before the crew faced tougher conditions on the way back.

They have been pictured celebrating in a damp Cherbourg.

The class was won by Black Sheep in four days 15 hours and 59 minutes.

Fujitsu British Soldier was second and Puma third.

The outright winner was SVR Lazartigue, which took the record in one day eight hours 38 minutes.
