Clay pigeon shooting has been withdrawn from the Orkney 2025 Island Games.

It leaves 13 sports on the agenda.

"We were notified by the Orkney Clay Pigeon Club of their decision to withdraw from the Island Games event in 2025. We have been made aware of some of the unique challenges that the Orkney Clay Pigeon Club have faced and despite providing all the assurances that we can, have, with regret, accepted their decision," said Kirsty Talbot, Games Director.

"We are of course very disappointed to lose a key sports partner at this stage. We continue to work closely with the other 12 sports, funding partners, key stakeholders and sponsors, focussing on delivering a world class sporting event in Orkney in July 2025."

The Club were due to host the event at their Ramsdale facility on Orphir, but were concerned about the costs, according to reports.

International Island Games Association cairh Jorgen Pettersson said: "We are naturally disappointed about the withdrawal of Clay Shooting from the Games in 2025 but we have to accept the decision from the local organisers. We fully support the Organising Committee in their endeavours to deliver a world class-Games in Orkney."

The list of sports is now: archery, athletics, badminton, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, lawn bowls, sailing, squash, swimming and triathlon.

Guernsey topped the shooting medal table at the event here last year, which included pistol and air disciplines, with 16 gold, nine silver and eight bronze.

The Games will take place from 12 to 18 July 2025.
