Children benefit from community football programme

Thursday 02 November 2023

Some 400 hours of football coaching have been delivered across every primary and four secondary schools, helping to keep over 1,000 children active, with more to come.

The Guernsey Football Association’s Deloitte community programme has provided training sessions in the schools over the last academic year.

Joelle Pengelley, Football Development Officer for Women and Girls at the GFA said: “Thanks to Deloitte’s continued support, the GFA will be delivering the same programme of activity once again this year. We’re grateful to be able to continue encouraging local children to partake in sport, stay active and enjoy football.”

The Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield resumed in September with the finals taking place in May.

This under-12 tournament has 14 teams playing.

GFA Chief Executive, Gary Roberts, added: “The work being done both in schools to support physical literacy and through the Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield are invaluable in supporting the next generation of footballers.”

Partner at Deloitte, David Becker, said: "We’re proud to support the GFA across a variety of their programmes. Reaching so many local children is a great achievement and we are pleased to be a part. I’m looking forward to seeing the continuation of the primary schools programme this year and the Corbet Cup and Shield as it reaches the finals in May."
