Working from home “hugely encouraged” in Stage 2

The head of the civil service has repeated that even in Stage 2, people should continue to work from home wherever possible.

The Bailiwick of Guernsey will be entering Stage 2 of its exit from lockdown on Monday 8 March, after confirmation from the Civil Contingencies Authority.

A raft of guidance was released earlier this week, preparing businesses and individuals for the rules and regulations that come into force next week.

“If you are able to run your business from home, we encourage the majority of your workers to do so," said States CEO Paul Whitfield.

The rules have been made more flexible to allow for some workers to return to their office environments, which Mr Whitfield expects to increase productivity.

“We understand that having a number of people in an office environment can accommodate people at home doing more and working more effectively,” he said.

Despite this, Mr Whitfield said the priority message remains the same.

“The emphasis in Stage 2 is to control numbers and keep numbers down, so where we can work at home, work at home.”

Any business who intends to have people return to work must register with the States of Guernsey.
