Wicked Wolf 'lean to' catches fire

Monday 10 December 2018

A discarded cigarette is believed to have been the likely cause of a fire at an outbuilding at the former Carlton Hotel in St Martin.

A spokesperson for the fire service said it was a lean to adjacent to the main building that had been at the centre of the blaze, and not the main restaurant or hotel building.

While it's not been confirmed what started the fire yet, it is suspected that a cigarette butt or the spark from one may have been the cause.

It took the fire service less than an hour to get to the scene, put the flames out and make the area safe again on Sunday afternoon.

No one was hurt.

The flames could be seen above houses along Routes Des Cornus, St Martins, with some eye witnesses saying they reached 15ft high.

Max Brouard sent Express the two photos above and said the road had been blocked off with cars being turned back as firefighters dealt with the situation.
