Waiting list as Hangar Ball tickets sell out in minutes

Friday 01 February 2019

Specsavers has had to set up waiting lists for its ever-popular Hangar Ball events after every ticket for both nights was sold in less than five minutes.

Tickets for the themed nights on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 May went on sale at midday on Wednesday 30 January.

By 12:05 they were both sold out.

While demand is always high, Specsaver said it was 'exceptionally high' this time, with 1,600 tickets selling out within five minutes.

Waiting lists for both nights have been set up, and the company is also encouraging anyone with spare tickets to let them know so they can be sold on.

Specsavers Events Manager, Suzanne Pontin, said; "The Hangar Ball events are always very popular as it gives islanders the opportunity to come together and celebrate Guernsey’s liberation from the German Occupation.

"We are now encouraging anyone who missed out on tickets to sign up to our waiting list. Also, if anyone has spare tickets or is no longer able to attend, please let us know."

This year, May 9 will mark 74 years since Guernsey was liberated from German occupying forces. Despite the many sad memories the Occupation years hold for a lot of people still, the Liberation continues to be a time of celebration.

Specsavers has long been involved in the fun side of Liberation Day with its free-to-attend 1940s style tea party for older guests and it's ticketed Hangar Ball.

The hundreds of attendees this year will be treated to entertainment including the Ashby Big Band.
