Valnord Road work ongoing

Tuesday 09 January 2018

Work to rebuild the wall on Valnord Road, which collapsed on New Year's Eve, is going well, the States have said.

Over the coming days, the site area will continue to be surrounded by fencing, to keep passersby safe. The road remains closed to all traffic with parking suspensions still in force to keep access to the site clear.

The road was blocked when the wall collapsed on 31 December, as earth from the other side caved in before falling onto the road. It has been blocked since, although some of the debris has been cleared.

The States of Guernsey's Traffic & Highways services said it hoped that over the next few days, pedestrians will be able to pass through the site safely, adding that "wherever possible, this will be the case throughout the remainder of the works".

"Pedestrians should note however that the nature of some of the works taking place will necessitate a closure, with pedestrians unable to pass, in order to minimise the risk of injury."

Motorists are not able to use the road and should follow diversions, while residents living in the area will have to continue parking elsewhere.

Traffic & Highways services says updates will be issued as and when they are appropriate.
