Tributes to Mike Tanguy MBE

Former Jurat Mike Tanguy MBE has died, having benefited the lives of many other people through his community and charitable endeavours.

Some of the roles he took on included Chairman of both Les Bourgs Hospice and Le Platon Residential Home for a number of years.

Through those roles he was involved in fundraising millions of pounds for the provision of end of life care and residential care.

Both organisations have used fundraising campaigns to fund redevelopment projects. Les Bourgs Hospice reopened prior to a Royal visit in 2012, while work at Le Platon is ongoing.

Jo Boyd, Les Bourgs Hospice Director said the news of Mr Tanguy's death was very sad, and she was aware of the "enormous debt of gratitude" the island owes him.

"It is with great sadness we are announcing the sudden death of our previous chairman of many years, Jurat Michael Tanguy MBE.  We all send our deepest condolences to his wife Elizabeth and family," she said.

"The hospice owes an enormous debt of gratitude to Mike for all his hard work, commitment and enthusiasm helping us to achieve what we have today and is a very fitting legacy to him. I am honoured to have known him."

Other people who said they too were "honoured to have known him" include Sandra Platts who commented on the Les Bourgs Facebook page saying "How very sad. I was honoured to have worked with him at the hospice for a short time. What a truly good man."

Trish de Carteret, who was on the board of directors for the Friends of Les Bourgs Hospice, said "Mike was a great man who gave a huge amount to the Hospice and other charities, he was such a lovely person. Love to Elizabeth and his family at this sad time. RiP Mike."

Richard Torode shared memories of Mr Tanguy in his younger years.

"I knew Mike since I was a little boy when my Mum used to pack tomatoes for his Mum and Dad. He always had time for a chat whenever we met. He was a warm, kind, caring and sincere man. A true gentle man."

Mr Tanguy died on 21 April. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A private family funeral is planned with a memorial service to be held at St Joseph's Church at a later date.

Donations in his memory are requested to be paid to either Les Bourgs Hospice or Le Platon Residential Home.
