"I have never done anything as tough as this"

Saturday 05 September 2020

Steve Langlois will make his way around Guernsey three times within 24 hours this weekend - out on the ocean, on foot and by bike - in an epic 100-mile challenge.

His journey will start with a 25-mile kayak on Sunday with the 'Tour the Shores' group, who will be paddling in aid of Smile for Georgie.

He'll then come ashore where he'll begin a 35-mile run around the island, followed by a 40-mile cycle lap.

"Two years ago, I had a long time out due to injury but was determined to come back stronger," said Mr Langlois, who is the General Manager at Guernsey Water. "Up until now, I didn't know what that meant, but if I complete this challenge I will know that I have come back stronger, because I have never done anything as tough as this before."

"I was training for my first ultra-marathon when lockdown cancelled the events I had lined up. I also love kayaking, so when Smile for Georgie and Outdoor Guernsey created the 'Tour the Shores' challenge, I thought it could be a great opportunity to combine it with my running. Then I thought, why not do a bit on the bike as well? So my challenge just got bigger and bigger."

Mr Langlois has decided to support one charity for each of his laps of the island; Smile for Georgie, Guernsey Mind and Les Bourgs Hospice.

"The support I have had already from friends and family is amazing," he added. "I would also like to thank Barber Jay, CrossFit Castaway Box II and Adventure Cycles for sponsoring each of my three laps."
