Three fires in one weekend

Monday 26 February 2024

Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service dealt with three structure fires over the weekend - luckily no one was injured in any of them.

The most devastating damage was caused by the first of the three fires, at the Octopus restaurant in St Peter Port.

That fire broke out at around 04:00 on Saturday morning, with all the emergency services and civil protection volunteers on the scene throughout the entire day and into the night as fire fighters first extinguished the flames then worked to cool the building down to prevent it reigniting.

The following day, there were two further call outs to fires within an hour.

At around 12:30 yesterday the fire and rescue service was called out to a structure Fire at Long Trac, in St Martins.

While they were dealing with that fire, a second call came in for a structure fire at Rosaire Gardens in St Peter Port. A microwave was alight in the kitchen of one of the resident's flats.

Both fires were put out with fire fighters staying on the scene to ensure each property was well ventilated afterwards.
