Teams get to work fixing Bathing Pools

Monday 11 March 2024

A week long programme of restoration begins this week at La Vallette, with the Ladies Pool closed on Thursday and Friday.

The States are restoring steps to the north of the cafe, improving the grip of surfaces around the main pool, and new landscaping to bolster the number of native plants.

It’s also understood leaks are being plugged after recent neap tides exposed the lack of watertightness in at least two of the four pools.

Blush hammering will help to roughen the concrete surfaces to improve grip and safety.

Agriculture, Countryside, and Land Management Services said this will result in the Ladies pool being closed on 14 and 15 March, but the Children’s Pool will still be open.

Other areas will be cordoned off while works are ongoing.

Jim Robinson, Director of Natural Environment, said: “It’s fantastic that our historic bathing pools are used all year round, but that does mean that there isn’t ever really a good time to carry out improvements.

“We wanted to get in ahead of the summer when we know that the pools be even busier. Thank you to islanders for their patience whilst we make these improvements.”
