Today marks the end of the Track & Field season

Sunday 13 September 2020

A host of competitive action at Footes Lane today will bring to a close a hugely successful season of athletics.

200m record-breaker Abi Galpin headlines in both her favoured event and also the 100m. She will face Island Games 400m star Indi Gallagher in both races as the sprints revert to same-sex fields for the final outing of the season.

Galpin has statistically proved herself to be Guernsey's second best female athlete this summer behind the 5,000m record-breaking exploits of established Commonwealth Games distance runner Sarah Mercier.

Only the British Championships 400m hurdles finalists Ala Chalmers and Peter Curtis have trumped the two women in terms of performances this term.

The men’s sprints will be without Guernsey’s number 1 Josh Allaway – but will still see three of the victorious 2019 Island Games relay squad in the shape of Sam Wallbridge, Lucas Rive and Josh Duke in action.

Chris Bain has been in consistent form over 800m this season and looks to close out a highly encouraging first year in the U20 age bracket. Following his breakthrough last season, he is the fastest Sarnian half-miler for a decade.

2019 Island Games champion in the 100m hurdles, Rhiannon Dowinton, will be looking to challenge the 15sec barrier in her second outing over the distance this season. Still only 17, she’ll be looking to set herself up for 2021 in what is essentially a time-trial.

In the field, established Sarnian number 1 in the javelin James Bougourd will be challenged by veteran star Dale Garland, who also leads the entries in the long jump. Former rugby player Daisy Travers provides intrigue in the women's shot putt and javelin.

The steeplechases finish off the programme with multiple Island Games gold medallist Lee Garland and young Summer Woodhead the leading names.
