New life is being breathed in to the "iconic" Ebenezer Church building by specialists with experience in renovating churches and chapels.
As reported by Express yesterday the former church building on Brock Road, St Peter Port is finally being redeveloped with 17 apartments being created within the original Ebenezer building and where outbuildings used to stand on the site.
The flats haven't been built yet, but Livingroom estate agents is promoting them pre-sale as a chance to "own a piece of a Guernsey icon".

Ebenezer is one of the most recognisable buildings in Guernsey, having been encased in scaffolding for almost thirty years.
Livingroom said it is "instantly recognisable due to its highly decorative facade and sheer size".
The former church closed in 1993 with the last service being held there on 26 July. It was bought by the current owner in 2021 and they are progressing the development plans to give the building "the attention it deserves".
The owner is a specialist in church and chapel renovations with many developments already completed elsewhere.

Sophie Turian, Senior Residential Negotiator at Livingroom, said the long-awaited redevelopment of the former church was delayed by covid and other matters but "it will be worth the wait".
“It’s been fascinating to watch the development evolve and we’re excited to announce the preliminary launch of Ebenezer," she said.
"Due to Covid and complexities with builders, it has taken longer than expected but it will certainly be worth the wait when it’s finished. As you’d expect from the development of an iconic building, the renovations will be done sensitively, and homage is being paid to the intricate decorative detailing. There are going to be some really unique features in some of these apartments and we’re excited to see the finished development."

The 17 Ebenezer flats will be arranged over three floors.
There will be a mix of one and two bedroom apartments, with allocated parking. The building will retain some of the architectural designs of the past with modern additions too.
Ms Turian said they are expected to be ready by the end of the year.
"For those interested in purchasing one of the 17 properties in the development, we will be releasing further information over the coming weeks. The information released so far is to provide an indication as to where the apartments will sit in the current market and we actively ask those interested to contact us to discuss the development and their requirements. We expect the development to be completed in November 2023.”

The original Ebenezer Church was founded in Sausmarez Street in 1816 then moved to the Brock Road on 10 October 1878.
The two churches amalgamated on the Brock Road site and took the Ebenezer name in 1960, when the building was further altered. The first proposals to demolish the building were made in April 1986, when future plans for the Methodist Circuit were discussed.
The last service at Ebenezer Methodist Church was held on 26 July 1993.
