"Something for everyone" at Rocquaine Regatta

An organiser of the Rocquaine Regatta has said there will be "something for everyone" at tomorrow's event.

Simon Le Tocq, who has been involved in organising the annual event for 14 years, said that attendees could expect to have "a great day" with activities running from 08:00 until 22:00

The day will begin with a swim from Portlet to Fort Grey. There will be motor boat races, ultimate frisbee, five-a-side football and tug of war as well as activities just for children.

"We have a new event this year which will be husband dragging. We have held wife carrying events for number of years so we thought it was time to even things up. We don't want to give too much away, but I'm sure it will be a great spectacle," said Mr Le Tocq. 

"The Rocquaine Regatta is really important for the island as a whole, not just the western parishes. It has a long history and we even managed to continue it through the covid years. We have moved with the times but we also want to keep the tradition and spirit of it alive."

All events at the regatta are free, which Mr Le Tocq said was something important to offer to islanders.

"After the beach activities throughout the day, there will be live music in the field opposite Fort Grey and fresh mackerel available. It really is a full day of entertainment. There is something for everyone and I would encourage anyone to get along and have a great day," said Mr Le Tocq. 

Islanders are encouraged to use public transport or walk or cycle to the event, as parking in the area "is virtually non-existent".
