From today until 30 September, the lower speed limit is in force along Route De La Lague and Route De Rocquaine (between the Imperial Hotel and La Route du Coudre)  and at Vazon between the Martello Tower and the Fort Houmet access road.

A spokesperson for Traffic and Highway Services said:

"The roads where seasonal speed limit reductions are introduced, are adjacent sections of coast that tend to be used much more heavily by both locals and visitors in the warmer weather months. In particular, a lower speed limit is considered beneficial when there are more people walking, cycling, crossing the road and parking in the vicinity.

"Outside of the June to Sept period, the usage and especially the number of vulnerable road users is much lower and therefore it is considered that a maximum speed limit of 35mph is appropriate, albeit at all times drivers must drive at a speed that is appropriate for the road conditions."

Neither of these lengths of the west coast road are affected by other permanent changes to speed limits in the island. 

As well as the speed limit reductions, from today Petit Bot Road from Petit Bot Tearooms to Les Pages is one way between 10:00 and 19:00 daily until 30 September.
