Sark's Carl Hester brings home the bronze

Wednesday 28 July 2021

Carl Hester has won a bronze medal in the team dressage at the Tokyo Olympics.

It makes it three Olympic medals for Hester, who won gold in the 2012 Olympic Games and silver in 2016.

Hester, who hails from Sark, competed alongside his other GB teammates Charlotte Fry and Charlotte Dujardin in the dressage event.

Hester and his horse En Vogue started the team final with a successful 78.344%. Each movement a rider's horse makes is scored from 1-10, and the final tally is calculated as a percentage of that perfect score.

His score was lauded as a brilliant start to the competition.

Despite a great performance from all three team GB competitors, they lost out to the United States who won silver, and Germany, who took gold.

Hester will be competing at 11:00 today in the individual medal final.
