A warning has been issued over a visiting trader who may have recently sold goods in Guernsey which don't meet recognised safety standards.
Trading Standards issued the warning late on Friday, describing some of the goods which may have been bought in the island as 'potentially dangerous'.
A spokesman said: "Trading Standards has become aware of a visiting trader selling portable generators and other goods on the island. The trader is believed to have left the island.
"The generators are a little known brand and may not be safety tested or meet the safety standard required by UK and EU regulations."
There are some steps anyone who may have bought one of the items can take to try and get their money back, but in the meantime the generators and other items should not be used.
The Trading Standards spokesman said: "Islanders are being advised not to risk using these potentially dangerous machines and to contact Trading Standards by calling 234567 or by emailing tradingstandards@gov.gg if they have bought a generator from an off-island trader recently.
"Unfortunately it is unlikely you will be able to trace the trader in order to obtain a refund, however if you paid by cheque or card you may be able to cancel the payment by immediately contacting your bank.
"We would advise members of the public not to buy from cold callers without first taking the opportunity to shop around.”
