Roll Bar gives Monday proceeds to Guernsey Mind

The Roll Bar donated all its proceeds yesterday to Guernsey Mind, to raise awareness of mental health issues and to remember a celebrated local sportsman who died suddenly last month.

Scott Bradford died at the age of 40.

He was a beloved family man and an avid footballer who represented his island.

“He was a father, a great footballer, a chap I knew and played football with, a very well-liked guy,” said the Owner of the Roll Bar, Vijay Wiltshire.

The fundraiser was held yesterday to coincide with Mr Bradford’s funeral.

“This is a chance for us to raise the issue of mental health in the public domain, while donating all our takings to Guernsey Mind,” said Mr Wiltshire.

“This is to remember Scott and raise awareness around mental health generally.”

"It's hugely beneficial to talk to your mates"

Mr Wiltshire said men often find it hard to speak out and seek help, and the charity was chosen for its promotion of mental health support.

“This is a massively important conversation," said Mr Wiltshire. "Speaking as a male, we tend to dismiss it and brush things under the carpet, but I think it’s hugely beneficial to talk to your mates.

“[Guernsey Mind] is a great organisation; it has numerous initiatives and workers in the community to help people deal with issues surrounding mental health,” he added.
