Pubs will not have to serve food in order to open to the public, starting from today, as long as social distancing and other hygiene requirements are followed.
Pubs, cafes and restaurants were allowed to open from the Saturday just passed, however pub-goers could only order drinks with food.
That requirement has now been dropped and pubs will be allowed to operate without it, subject to social distancing and other hygiene measures, until 22:30 at the latest.
"We have decided that pubs not serving food can open in phase four as long as they follow the new guidance," said HSC president Heidi Soulsby.
"There will need to be controls over entry to make sure social distancing can be maintained."

Explaining the general guidance that such establishments should follow, Deputy Soulsby said: "In restaurants cafes and pubs there needs to be at least one metre between tables and table service only is permitted.
"People aren’t allowed to stand at bars or order in such a way that they mingle with other tables or patrons.
"Strict controls also need to be placed on restrooms depending on their size and they need to be regularly cleaned. Hand sanitiser needs to be readily available to patrons and hygiene measures observed."

Spot checks will be carried out to ensure that establishments are complying with these criteria. In the event of non-compliance, the States has said that legal action may be taken to close the premises.
