The White Hart pub will soon be turned into a convenience retail store if planners approve an application for change of use.
The application from Sandpiper CI says opening a new convenience store in the Pollet would bring economic, social and environmental benefits to the area.
The future of the building and some others around it has been uncertain for some time.
In 2016, planning permission was obtained for a larger retail space at the northern end of the Lower Pollet. That development did not proceed and planning permission lapsed in 2019. A few months later, The White Hart pub closed its doors for the final time and the Food Hall nearby was also closed for renovation.
Lovell Ozanne is the architect of the latest proposed development.

The planning application states: “The proposed change of use to enable a convenience retail store in St Peter Port will enable the vacant space to make a positive contribution to the vitality of the Town centre.
“Convenience retail will reduce vehicular travel for both local residents who can then walk to get groceries and passing shoppers who can purchase groceries to/from Town.
“The new fit-out will include new services such as low energy LED lighting and heating/cooling equipment that will meet current rather than old environmental standards.”
