Parking rules eased for Christmas shoppers

Saturday 26 November 2022

From today, some of the short term disc parking spaces in St Peter Port are being extended, to enable people to spend more time in town shopping, or socialising, over Christmas.

The new time limits will be in place until Tuesday 3 January inclusive.

The changes mean that a number of two hour spaces become three hour zones, while some ten hour spaces will be temporarily de-regulated.

The Traffic and Highways Services team oversee parking spaces and it said: "As Christmas approaches, some parking time limits in town will be changing once again to make it easier for islanders to enjoy the festivities in St Peter Port and support local businesses."

The changes

From Saturday 26th November until Tuesday 3rd January inclusive:

Some two-hour parking spaces will be extended to three-hours - these will be signposted, showing either two or three hours where applicable.

The three-hour limits will apply to spaces at the Albert (156 spaces) and Crown (98 spaces) Piers. Those designated as long-term small car parking will remain as such throughout December.

Some three-hour parking spaces by the Model Yacht Pond (19 spaces), near to the rowing skiffs between Guernsey Divers and the “Fishy Tails” café, will be changed to 10-hour parking to increase capacity for those working in town.

At North Beach, 114 two-hour parking in the centre section will change to three-hour.

The 10-hour spaces at North Beach will also be de-regulated on a Saturday. This means drivers will not be required to move their vehicle by 08:00 if they have parked overnight on the Friday.

All day each Saturday until Christmas, and on the next four Thursday nights between 18:00 and 22:00, parking spaces on St Julian’s Emplacement (between the Cambridge Berth and Trident Kiosk) will be available for public parking.

On the same dates and times, Sir Charles Frossard House and Lukis House will also be available for public parking.
