Historian Dan Snow is claiming to have found one of the most important WWII archaeology hauls in years in a new Bailiwick-focused documentary.
'The Islands of Guernsey – Secrets of Hitler's Island Fortress’ is a new film he has released as part of his role as 'heritage ambassador' for the Islands of Guernsey ahead of the 75 Liberation Anniversary next year.
In the film which he produced in partnership with VisitGuernsey, Mr Snow is reported to discover the "unique wartime experience of the Islands and the people who lived through the occupation".

55 minutes in length, the documentary is avalible now in HistoryHit TV, a digital channel ViistGuernsey described as the 'Netflix of History". In three weeks, it will be available on Youtube.
From decaying German equipment left in the tunnels at Rouge Rue, to a daring commando raid on Sark to an extraordinary reconnoitre of untouched World War Two archaeology submerged in an Alderney quarry, Mr Snow explores extraordinary wartime relics - above and below ground.
"This is a truly phenomenal find. To discover such a haul in the lead up to the 75th anniversary of the Islands of Guernsey’s liberation from Nazi forces make this all the more astounding and poignant and sheds further light on Guernsey’s incredible history," he said, describing the array of equipment discovered as one of the most important hauls of WWII archaeology found in recent years.

As part of the Islands of Guernsey’s commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Liberation an islands-wide programme called Heritage 75 has been compiled. Running from April to October Heritage 75 is a major programme of events and festivities including themed tours, guided walks, and exhibitions enabling visitors to discover and experience what life was like before, during and after the occupation, whilst also delving into other areas of the Bailiwick’s rich history.
